RESTAURANT DONATIONS
In 2008 the state of Florida passed the "Jack Davis Florida Restaurant Lending a Helping Hand Act". The law, which specifically protected restaurants from liability, was named after the 11-year-old from South Florida who had alerted state legislators to the vast amounts of food discarded by local restaurants.
If you are a restaurant interested in donating to a local soup kitchen in your area, please contact South Florida Hunger Coalition Coordinator, Sandi Gruber, via email at sgruber@southfloridahungercoalition.org.

Most needed food items include:
- Dry and canned soups & stews
- Canned fruit & vegetables
- Infant formula & Baby Food
In January 2010, the Broward County Board of County initiated a year long
365 Food Drive to meet the increased demand caused by the economic
downturn. All non-perishable food items, such as canned meat, vegetables
and fruit, peanut butter, jelly or jam, soups, pasta and toiletries, are
welcome at any time. Residents are also reminded to take advantage of "buy one-get one free" offers from area grocery stores, by donating the second item to the 365 Food Drive.
JANUARY - The new year is always symbolized by a baby, so January is "Baby Month." Donate items for newborns to toddlers including baby formula, food, and cereal; diapers and pull-ups; and wipes.
